What to know about BJ’s Wholesale Club memberships

With Black Friday just around the corner, stores all across the country are beginning to release their yearly deals, offering large savings to customers.
Among these stores is BJ’s Wholesale Club. Similar to one of its competitor Costco, the store is a membership-only warehouse club. It offers a wide variety of products, from groceries to electronics at a discounted bulk price.
Black Friday deals at the store will run from now through Dec. 2, and include specials on toys, home goods, technology and more.
But in order to access the special prices, customers will need to have an active membership at the store. Here’s what to know before making the decision to get a BJ’s Wholesale Club membership.
BJ’s Wholesale Club has a two-tiered membership system available for its customers. The higher tier is The Club+ Card Membership, at $110 a year, and gives members 2% back in rewards on most purchases and 5 cents off per gallon at BJ’s Gas, among other benefits.
The lower tier, the Club Card Membership, is $55 a year and gives access to exclusive deals at BJ’s Wholesale Club stores and free curbside pickup on orders that are more than $50, among other benefits.
BJ’s Wholesale Club membership prices are slightly cheaper than competitor Costco.
At $130, Costco’s upper-tier membership is comparable to a BJ’s Wholesale Club membership. For the lower tier membership, Costco’s costs $65 while BJ’s is $55.
The Massachusetts-based store has more than 200 locations across 21 states, with stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Virginia.
The store offers discounts for various groups of people ranging from veterans and active duty personnel to first responders and college students at a discounted price of $25 with a $10 reward for signing up.
